About the Role

Scéal Heritage Consultancy is seeking a detail-oriented Documentation Assistant to assist in the delivery of a national heritage collections project. The successful candidate will play a key role in cataloguing, documenting, and supporting the cleaning and packing of artefacts in line with recognised museum standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive artefact catalogue including photographs, condition notes, and conservation requirements.
  • Carry out object numbering, labelling, cleaning, and packing.
  • Ensure all records meet recognised museum documentation standards.
  • Support intellectual and physical control of collections, including accurate data entry and file management.
  • Prepare progress reports and contribute to the final project report.
  • Liaise with project leads to ensure timely delivery of milestones.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Heritage Studies, Museum Studies, or related discipline.
  • Experience in cataloguing and documentation of heritage collections.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in data entry, digital cataloguing systems, and photography standards.
  • Ability to work on-site and follow strict handling and preservation protocols.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with museum standards and SPECTRUM documentation principles.
  • Knowledge of artefact numbering, marking, and preservation-grade packing.
  • Previous experience in Irish heritage or museum projects.

Contract Details

  • Duration: Mid-February to end of May 2026.
  • Location: Dublin 8 (primary), with occasional travel to other Dublin sites.
  • Remuneration: €31, 200 pro-rata  – €600 p/w with an additional weekly subsistence payment of €110
